How to plan for storage... some quick tips!
Author: Gabrielle D, Staff Writer
Using storage can be a great help to your life, especially if you’re in the middle of an overwhelming house move. Storage can free up both mental and physical space during some of the most stressful times in life. However, for a first-time user, storage can be a confusing thing to get your head around. You may be questioning which items to store, and which to keep, the safety, and the logistics of removals. In this article we have listed some quick tips to help you get going on your storage journey...
- Clean and prepare: Clean your furniture thoroughly before storing to prevent dirt, dust, or stains from setting in. Use appropriate cleaning methods and products for different materials. Disassemble furniture, if possible, to save space and make it easier to store.
- Wrap and protect: Use protective covers, such as plastic wrap or furniture blankets, to prevent scratches, dust, and damage during storage. Consider using furniture pads or bubble wrap for extra cushioning, especially for fragile items. Our LOVESPACE team can provide wrapping materials and packing services for you!
- Disassemble and label parts: If your furniture can be disassembled, take it apart carefully. Place screws, bolts, and other small parts in sealed bags and label them clearly. Keep all disassembled parts together and tape them securely to the corresponding furniture piece or pack them in a labelled box.
- Choose the right storage method: Feeling overwhelmed by storage options? At LOVESPACE, we’ll collect your items right from your home and store it for as long as you need. We’ll deliver back to you and after keeping your items safe and secure. Don’t worry about packing materials, as we’ve got that covered too. Only pay for what you store with our By-The-Box service or store larger items in our Storage Units.
- Maximise space: Utilise the available storage space efficiently by packing things tightly in each box. Fold clothes and fabrics as small as you can, and minimise unused space. Place lighter and less fragile items on top to prevent crushing.
- Store with care: Be mindful of weight distribution when preparing your items for storage. Make sure a single person can lift each box and avoid placing heavy items on top of delicate or easily damaged pieces. Make sure you don’t store perishables, and be wary of anything overly fragile.
- Store in a secure location: Choose a reputable storage facility with good security measures, such as surveillance cameras and restricted access. LOVESPACE storage facilities are fully security protected.
- Create an inventory: Take photos or make a detailed list of the furniture you are storing. This will help you keep track of your belongings and help you find items when needed. Again, don’t forget to name / label your boxes!
- Insurance coverage: Consider adding insurance coverage for your stored furniture and valuables, to protect them in the event that they get damaged. LOVESPACE storage includes insurance coverage for extra peace of mind.
By following these tips, you can ensure that your stuff stays in good condition while in storage and will be ready to use when you get it back. Remember, we collect your items straight from your home, so you never have to worry about the logistics! At LOVESPACE, we do the hard work for you.
