LOVESPACE 2023 climate plan

Author: Gabrielle D, Staff Writer

At LOVESPACE, we’re committed to taking meaningful action on climate change through reducing the impact of our business activities.

From miles driven, the choice of cardboard in our boxes, and our work culture, we are striving to be a more sustainable company and do better for the planet.

Transport is obviously a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and as our collection and delivery services mean vans on the road all year round, we’re playing a part.

We want to be transparent about the steps we’re taking, so below is where we’re up to with our carbon emissions reduction and offsetting activities for the year.

Our 2023 climate plan

This year, our plan covers three key different areas: reducing, calculating, and offsetting our carbon emissions. So, what does this all mean?

Reducing carbon emissions

We are making sure our time on the roads is spent carefully. We need to reduce our mileage, with storage locations as close as possible to where our customers are. Next, we’re working to make drivers’ routes as efficient as possible, with no wasted space inside our vans and limiting the chance of any failed attempts at collection and delivery.

To avoid attempts failing, we’ve been speaking to customers recently about how we can better prepare you for collection and delivery. We’re using the learnings to improve all communications about your order.

Eventually, we aim to switch to lower emission vehicles across our whole network.

Calculating carbon emissions

We have partnered with experts furthr and Planet Arborist to measure as accurately as possible the impact of all our activities that generate greenhouse gases, according to the international and widely used GHG Protocol. We’re using the findings to make decisions on how to reduce them, not just from our operational activities, but also within our team, our partners, and the services we purchase.

Offsetting 100% of our carbon emissions

The emissions we haven’t been able to avoid in that particular year, we offset or invest in a way that’s meaningful for the planet, our business and our team. We’ve recently offset our 2021 emissions – the equivalent of 916 tonnes of CO2, by investing money in Gold Standard Certified renewable energy projects around the world, such as:

  1. A solar power generation project in China
  2. A renewable wind power project in India
  3. A solar power plant in India

To find out about where our 2021 emissions came from, take a look at our other blog post.

This year we will also be offsetting 2022 emissions, within our climate plan, and we’ll tell you all about that shortly.

What’s next?

We care about the health and longevity of our planet. There’s lots of room for improvement, and we want to make sure we consider all your views in our action planning. If you have ideas, you can email us here.

We will keep in touch about the changes we’re making, stay tuned!
